I heard so many stories same everywhere every mums every borough .
once they got EHCP ( including myself ) . Before you throwing a party to celebrate .
u then realise 99% named schools shouting at u ( me at least ) : we r full !!!
we don’t want to even look at ur EHCP or read it . We r full ! We can’t meet ur need . Don’t contact us ! Talk to ur EHCP coordinator.

really ?
I have to take them to tribunal just so that they can talk decently and behave like an ethical läwful education sector worker ?

What type of provision are you looking at?
If it’s mainstream the LA will most likely push them into taking your child if you name it.
If it’s an LA special they may have limited spaces. The ones near me won’t consult directly with parents, it has to be done via the LA.
If it’s an independent non section 41 school then they have their own admissions criteria and can say no without any way of forcing them to take your child.

All schools I named are state school .
normal setting .

Their attitude is like exactly what u said: dont talk to me . Talk to ur EHCP coordinator. Don’t email / call us .
hang up .

mine is very mild , high function . Minimal disruption .

my friend has a low function. Needs 1-1 for sure .
her kid now end up in a special unit of a state school 45 mins away from home . Becoz of the same reason : we r full .
she is not a fighter .
she is not concerned of money but value her nerves . Too lazy to go to tribunal . Plan to pay 50k a year to private specialist school .

i am a fighter . So I may end up in tribunal 1-2-3 times .

but I just wonder : once u r in .
r they going to be nicer to u ?

There is generally a procedure to follow when a child has an EHCP and is looking for a school. It is the local authority that consults with the school and not the parent. So yes, in the majority of cases, the school will tell a prospective parent to speak to the SEN team. The SEN team will then share the EHCP with a range of local schools in the area and they will be asked to say whether feel they can meet the needs as outlined in the draft or agreed EHCP. The school will respond directly to the SEN team who will look through the responses. They can, and often do, overrule the school if they feel it is appropriate.
So the schools you are approaching may prefer to follow the local authority procedure rather than speak to you directly.

Every school we named says no .
and my kid has least obvious symptoms.
I am too tired for tribunal .
as current senco is gold .
for next 3 years .

How old is your child? You state your current SENCo is gold for the next three years - is that when your child transfers to secondary?

If it is then it is likely that when it’s time to name a school the LA
will push a mainstream to accept.

This time I named a state in a different borough .
they said no .
a state in same borough also said no to me .

how do I know next time things will be better. but next time will be my 1st time to name for secondary school . State also .

u mean LA WIll try much more pressure to states school , when it is transition to secondary?

If you want a mainstream state school, the LA will have to find you one. Every child has the legal right to a mainstream education.

They might say they can't meet need but don't let that put you off. Schools sometimes say that particularly if your EHCP banding is slightly off with section F and the young person might whack their budget. Budgets are going to be reallllly tight next year due to the rise in staffing costs. We are working on the budgets now and it's giving me the shivers and the school I'm in is exceptionally well funded.

Ask the LA to consult with 2 or 3 of your preferred mainstreams. They can name them even if their consult return is no. They will need to find a way to meet need.
