School says ehcp not needed - I'm not sure

Please share your wisdom/experience.

Dd is year 8 (13) she is autistic been under CAMHs for about a year due to OCD (recently discharged) and awaiting ADHD assessment.

Academically she is really struggling - I'd guess she will pass 2-3 GCSEs max given how she is currently doing. Attendance is pretty good though she's had problems attending some lessons which has brought it down a bit 93 % and behaviour exemplary. Very anxious generally though about lots of things particularly school.

School see a not very able child attending and behaving well so no problem and don't support an ehcp. But I'm worried that the school have just written her off and actually maybe she could do better, achieve more, be happier at school - would an ehcp help achieve this?

Any advice/help would be fantastic.

Request an EHCNA yourself. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use. Some schools often tell parents their DC doesn’t need or won’t get an EHCP but the parents go on to successfully apply themselves.

Parents can apply for EHCP. All you need is evidence that your dc has the needs. You may find a parent carers support group for advice or your LEA should be able to give a list of organizations to contact to get advice.

Thanks for these responses - how do I prove my DD has needs though. School think all is fine - but she is set to fail all her GCSEs at her current progress.

You can use the information from CAMHS and the ADHD referral. You can make SARs to school, GP, CAMHS in order to get more evidence. You can use evidence of lack of academic progress and difficulty attending some lessons.
