Hi, has anyone had a DFG for an extension? Have 3 children. My twins both have Autism. Both non verbal both have horrendous sleep patterns and both have Sensory needs in different ways. We have no space the twins share a room which makes sleep even worse as one wakes the other and then the other way around we are up all night every night tried bed sharing with me doesn't help!. But my elder child is 12 and it would not be fair to her have share with them either she would get no sleep. We have no space for any sensory equipment they ideally really need a quiet space with some sensory input to regulate we have no dining room very small kitchen. They just don't have any safe space. No escape from each other and no time out. And nowhere for any high energy sensory equipment we do have a small trampoline in the living room but thats all we can physically fit I wondered if based on the need for some sensory input, plus ideally separate room to sleep would we be able to apply for a DFG. Or would the not do it for this kind of reason?

I think you'd be best asking. I was assessed (adult services) and they decided an alternative option could be carried out (which actually wouldn't have worked and in mine and ot view was a health and safety risk for me and my family) so they costed their plan and gave me the money towards what needed to happen (about a third of the cost). They were very approachable and after an initial discussion sent an ot to advise ( and put some interim measures in place).

It is worth requesting an assessment. An additional bedroom for one of DTs is more likely to be agreed than a sensory room. It is worth reading the guidance here first.
