Extra funding

When a child with sen is granted early years extra funding, what is that for? Nursery have told me it's not specific for Child. Even after applying for the funding, they're now saying as from Monday they're reducing hours from full days to half because of the behaviour that said funding was applied for.

Depends on what funding you mean. Do you mean Disability Access Funding, Early Years Inclusion Funding, funding via an EHCP?

What type of nursery is it? If it is a nursery attached to a state school the exclusion guidance here applies.

Has the nursery made reasonable adjustments? If an EHCP isn’t already in place, has an EHCNA been requested? Have they asked the Area SENCO for advice?

It would be the early years funding. Nursery is one of those part of a school type. Not private.
What do you mean by adjustments?

I asked for an ehcp to be looked at last year. Was told in no uncertain terms that does not qualify for nursery aged children's

You can request an EHCNA yourself. Use IPSEA’s model letter that is on their website. Nursery aged pupils can have EHCPs.

By adjustments I mean what support and adaptations has the school put in place.

The exclusion guidance applies to nurseries attached to state schools. It didn’t link in my pp, but it is here. Complain to the HT. If that doesn’t work complain to the governors. Also contact the LA. Unfortunately, early years inclusion funding isn’t legally ring fenced in the way e.g. EHCP provision is guaranteed.

Apologies, I'm not familiar with some of the abbreviations, but i will look into the other letters to see what those are.

Nursery have been far from helpful. Preferring to send child home instead.

EHCNA = education, health and care needs assessment.
EHCP = education, health and care plan
IPSEA = Independent Provider of Special Education Advice (a charity who supports parents with SEN matters).
HT = head teacher
LA = local authority
