My nephews currently off school after being assaulted by other students (boy & girl couple)

Apparently he thought it was a Joke at first because the girl was 'mucking about with him' but later went off & scratched herself & brought this boy she was friends with into it who assualted him 'defending her' while she watched off to the distance

Nephew is well known to the school due to Special needs but has no history of violence & genuinely wasnt scarred by the experiance at first because he believed it was a joke & when it wasn't he got help in the office who called his mum straight away BUT obviously the kids are saying it was him. He did it. He scratched her. Ect & there was only a few children present - none of them close friends

He's now off with his mum - my sil demanding the school deal with it properly (credits to her)
But how seriously can they really investigate something like this.

My DC school has CCTV everywhere nowadays so hopefully it’s been recorded somewhere?

There's definitely CCTV at the school but mainly around the office/libary/lunch rooms/home rooms not 100% covered

@RemarkablyBrightCreature also meant to add they can definitely tell who was involved but he also named them & they were defending each other so not much help

The school should investigate.

How much support is DN receiving at school?

How much support is DN receiving at school?

He's on a relatively high level of care (direct phone calls to parents/medication can be administered/weekly+ meetings for both general counsiling as well as support /some classes arranged to suit) but over a almost 7 year stretch (this is his longest running school) theres been failings as well particularly with day to day teachers & staff who don't deal directly with SEN students & too be fair looks & size wise we've traditionally dismissed physical bullying of being his risk factor though theres been close calls in the past (allegations made by him but no marks or displayed trauma compared to this week)

It's been escalated by SIL who's adamant he wont be taking responsibility for this or minimising it to them all being involved in rough housing & I think he wants a resolution before he returns though saying he's 'sick' & wants a break

Of course there's been questioning/investigating but it's all very he said-she said & theyve both both marks on them (him & the girl)

I would imagine the boy will have to be at least suspended as he jumped in violently to "defend" the girl without any reporting to the school but I think he's more bothered about them sticking together & having to see the girl again
So not sure how they'll investigate that

It sounds like DN needs much more support than he is receiving. For example, if there was a higher level of support and supervision this situation wouldn’t have happened. Does DN have an EHCP?

Jk8 · 12/03/2024 18:17

@Headfirstintothewild he is on a plan yh.
The supervision on students in general is 10 fold what were used to from our own experiance but clearly not 100% In secondary with them moving about

We can't send him back till he's 100% sure of himself & the school knows this so he's not being penalised for time off.

If DN has an EHCP, SIL needs to request an early review of the EHCP. IPSEA has a model letter she can use.

Supervision needs to be more and if necessary absolutely can be 100% of the time either 1:1 or in the background.
