Hi,

My 9 year old year 4 child in mainstream has Autism,ADHD and tic disorder.
He has an EHCP but is at the lowest funding, and is now evident that it is not enough.
Every year his impulsiveness and his anger has got worse.
He spends most of his time in school crying, hurting others and or throwing pupils belongings/chairs anything he can get his hands on basically.
Most of the time there is a reason like not understanding work, transitions, his routine got changed, to even a game at PE not being played to the way he thinks it should be played.
He was suspended last week for hurting another pupil and rightly I know.
He needs a 1 to 1 for at least afternoons as this is the time it happens the most.
The school are having a 1to1 for him when they can which atm is not often because they just dont have the staff and in those times he is better behave so I know this will help.
Im am literally worried the placement is going to breakdown and he will be permanently excluded.
The school have now suggested an early review to his EHCP.
I'm wondering for anyone who knows what the time scale is? What will happen?
Is it quicker for me to ask then the school?
Thank you

Request an early review of the EHCP yourself. That way you know it is done ASAP. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

It will be at least 2 weeks to an early review. Realistically probably more. Following the review meeting, the LA must inform you whether they are going to amend or not within 4 weeks of the meeting. If they are going to amend they must send the amendment notice at the same time. Then finalise within another 8 weeks.

Unfortunately, the LA doesn’t have to agree to an early review. If that happens you would have to wait for the annual review or request a reassessment of needs.

Focus on getting the provision required detailed, specified and quantified in F rather than the funding.

Is 1:1 in F? When did DS last have an EP assessment? Has he had SALT, OT and MH assessments?

1 to 1 is in there but only for very short amount of time (say 5 mins every hour of learning to keep him focused).
He got his EHCP in October last year, we are waiting for SEMH outreach to get involved.
Had OT input, is under the paediatrician and TAMHs won't see him as they say its not under there remit as its ASD/adhd.

It sounds like the EHCP is inadequate. Next time you get the right of appeal you should appeal unless the quality of it is vastly improved during the review process.

Is the SEMH outreach support in F? It should be. If it is you don’t need to wait for it. If it isn’t this is something you can discuss at the review (along with 1:1).

MH support needs to be in F. Then it must be provided even if it means the LA commissioning independent provision. Ongoing OT support needs to be in F, too.

SEMH outreach wasn't in there at all, the school buys into them and have requested there input.
OT was but only for limited sessions which he has had.
He has gone down hill dramatically since the EHCP was done.

Going forward, the SEMH outreach support should be in F.

Following the review you may need to appeal and seek independent reports.

You could request a reassessment of needs. Although you may still need to appeal and seek independent reports, so you may not gain anything from this route over just appealing.

Well we are having to pick him up half an hour early each day for the forseable due to his behaviour and him hitting out at his teacher which I do not condone at all ( I think he felt trapped so he was doing it as a flight or fright thing and not to actually hurt) does not make it any better I know and I'm so sad with the whole thing.
This behaviour we have endured at home for years, I have asked for help.
His behaviour hasn't been great at school but this is the worst it's ever been.

Is picking up early for DS’s benefit or the schools?

I would say both tbh
