Hi all I'm looking for some advice. My ds is now 17 and struggled all through school. In primary he had extra help all through and in High school I received a letter stating they think ds has a learning difficulty and would assess and give extra help.
We then went into lockdown and when they returned to school I kept pestering the school as they never seemed to keep to their word. In year 11 my ds really struggled with mocks and still the school did nothing. I rang and emailed so many times and was told it was too late to test as gcse were approaching. Ds failed all exams but did manage to get into college on a level 1 and now needs to resit English and maths.
I mentioned his struggles to the college and they assessed and told ds he had High functioning dyslexia and working memory decifit. She emailed my ds and all his lecturers just basically saying he needs 25% extra time in exams and some info on both difficulties but I've recieved no email or anything.
My relative has a dd woth dyslexia and she recieved loads of info and her scores ect but she is in university. Did anyone who's child was diagnosed with dyslexia have any specific emails or information? I just find it strange I've received nothing about this at all. Thanks

It's very unlikely the college did a full diagnostic assessment. I would get a full assessment done, if they are still in education and you don't suspect any other conditions then I would go for an assessment by a Specialist Teacher. That will give you the cognitive profile and recommendations for adjustments at college. The college probably did a screening, which is enough to evidence needing extra time in exams but not anything beyond that.

Ah that would make sense. The lady who assessed is an spld specialist. She assesses in colleges once a year and just managed to get to see my ds in time before the cut off point. My ds also said she was writting down scores too.

You should speak to the college. It may be a diagnosis rather than just a screening if they have a visiting SpLD assessor. Either way the college should have the paperwork/scores etc.

I've just messaged the assessor through the sen team at the college asking for a diagnosis assessment report so hopefully I can get one. Ds forgot half of what was said so I was hoping I'd get some sort of email explaining the diagnosis so I can help him at home too.
