Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL)

Does anyone have experience of an ADHD child at the Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) please? I'd appreciate hearing of experiences in both the primary and secondary ages of the school. Were the SEN team and teachers supportive and knowledgable about ADHD? My child (8) is bright, articulate, and can 'access the curriculum' but struggles with focus and attention in large groups. Works well in smaller groups.
Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences.

i have a friend whose daughter has adhd and ASD - she did senior at GSL from year 7 to 11 but then left and went to Tad Grammar (state) instead for sixth form. She found it hard, but I think the teachers were largely ok. Like your daughter she is bright and can access the curriculum well.

basically I think she would have found senior hard anywhere, due to the movement around classrooms, extra demands etc, but GSL were good with her. I know the move to Tad was more to reduce the commute than anything else.

sorry that’s probably not helpful!

I know this is an old thread, but I had the same question and was wondering if anyone else had any experience of ADHD adjustments at GSAL?

Answering my own question as DC is now at GSAL. We have found the individual needs department to be excellent. They offer courses for the kids in things like time management and are responsive to parental contact. They liaise with subject teachers so everyone knows what the child needs and offer adjustments (extra time/movement breaks) for tests.

@100Bees I'm the original poster and also moved my child (plus their sibling) to GSAL in the end - they have (both) had an extremely positive experience so far, and I am very glad to have made the move for them.

Is your child in the Junior or Senior school? I'm interested as I haven't come across a 'parent community' of the SEN children at GSAL (separate to the direct engagement between individual parents and the School) to share experiences with and understand the possible support or adjustments to ask for. Perhaps we could start one 😂(although the school does officially host coffee morning sessions frequently).

Senior school. I've been to a couple of the coffee mornings.
