How does your adhd child sleep?

Ds is undiagnosed but we strongly suspect, as does school.

He sleeps really badly. Struggles to fall asleep at night (fights it) and is restless all night long. Climbing in and out of my bed, kicking, rolling around. I don’t think he ever has a full night’s sleep.

I’m sure it’s not helping his day go better! He does struggle in the day with his impulsiveness etc.

How well does your ADHD child sleep? What can I do about it?

Melatonin was a game changer to our relationship with our son and to our sanity.

Speak to you GP, you really have to insist though if you don't have a diagnosis yet. Otherwise, order from the US.

I second melatonin. The GP may not prescribe without it being started by a paed/CAMHS. If that is the case you can ask for a referral to a sleep clinic, there will be a waiting list but it might be quicker than the ADHD assessment list.

Melatonin here too.

DD has had a midnight bedtime since she was 2 (now 15). It just wasn't worth the battle. Once she was asleep she did stay asleep but was always hard to get her to drop off - and that got worse as she got older.

Now she takes the melatonin and it's like magic. However she is old enough to know that it only works if she actually tries to go to sleep after she's taken it.

We order online from the US.

Melatonin changed our lives too.

It was prescribed by the paediatrician who assessed DC for ADHD/ASD (privately) then taken on by the GP.

If you Google ADDISS Sleep Seekers you'll find some research.
