Hi all
I am new here and wanted some advise

Some background... My DD (13) has always displayed ASD traits but masked vert well through primary.. since joining secondary, the mask is dropping and she is starting to struggle emotionally and socially
Her school are brilliant and are helping but we cant start a ASD assessment as our county isnt accepting new referrals at the moment

We have been told by school about the Right to choose NHS scheme and am going to see our GP about it

I was wondering if anyone has had a ASD assessment via this route and what the process entails

Many thanks all

You can be referred by the GP but after that the process varies depending on the provider you are referred to, there isn’t one set process.

Some areas are no longer accepting Right To Choose either. I've heard Surrey aren't anymore.

Any ICB with a blanket policy of refusing RTC requests would be leaving themselves open to legal challenge. RTC is part of the NHS Constitution and a legal right. Patients/their parents should challenge that.

oh no.... we are Surrey

We cant afford to go private... this is so heartbreaking - just want to get help for my child - but Surrey has enough ASD children it would seem :(

Agreed - that's the whole point of it!

My son has had an ADHD assessment and ASD assessment via RTC. (We are no longer in Surrey though, despite my user name).

Yes, this exactly. Also some GPs have never heard of it, so research it and be prepared with all the info!
