Why do I feel sick with nerves, they don't normally bother me?

I always get nervous even when i know it'll just be his teacher Tas Senco and me and we all get on. Silly isn't it. Good luck with the meeting

Thanks - this one is with every Tom, Dick and Harry.
Don't like this year's teacher, I think that's it. They're very defensive and clearly missed charm school!

How did it go?

Thanks for asking

Very different from usual as this was his year 6 review. SENCO from High school and LEA were fighting over funding. I wrote to LEA when I received the proposed statement asking for further clarification as they had just proposed a sum of money (around £9k) which means nothing to me. Letter was ignored but I found out today that it equals 15hrs a week of support that all present, except the LEA, agreed was insufficient.
Confusingly the School has an Autism support Base which DS has not been allocated a place for but school thought he was receving support i.e. funding in lieu of place but LEA didn't.
All very difficult to follow, LEA said they were acting on advice from Autism support team so I have contacted them.
Got address for IPSEA from good old MN and have looked up on that how to appeal against ammended statement if funding is not increased.
I've been very lucky and have never had to fight before, think I'm just about to learn how too, quickly!
Any advice from wise MNetters gratefully received.

God what a nightmare i've not had to fight a statement as my LEA rep has been fab and put all the changes in that I asked for at ds latest review. His is a transitional one too. Attillathemeerkat is good for this sort of stuff.

Dusty is quite right about Atilla or Yurt or someone helping - but maybe try and post on the other SEN site too. You can often do a bit of scare tactics on the school about reducing hours of support - eg would he be a health and safety hazard to himself (and others ) if left alone too much? Schools are terrified of getting sued for accidents nowadays so you could use that in your appeal. IPSEA helpline very good, just keep ringing it and sometimes you get lucky quickly and you get through to a really good lawyer, who's giving the advice for free! SOS SEN is another good one - number is 0208 979 8853. Good luck

as a TA 15 hours of support at 9k is pretty good wages !!

Unfitmother · 11/03/2008 20:13

The LEA said that as well but the school said their TAs working in the autism support base are Level 6 (whatever that means) so cost more.
