Next steps after being diagnosed with dyslexia

My daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia just before end of term last year, by a private assessment.

I have given the school SEN lead and her class teacher a copy of the report.

It recommends several specific things she should have, including 25% extra time in assessments.

Nothing has been done to implement any support or changes and she didn't have any extra time in mock sats.

Should the school be doing something, like translating the recommendations into a plan for her?

I will ask them again after half-term, but I am not sure exactly what they should be doing to help?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Support in schools is based on needs rather than diagnosis. What that support will look like will depend on DD’s needs. If DD needs SEN support she should have an IEP (or similar but called a different name). Depending on what the recommendations are, they may not be possible without an EHCP.

You can see the rules for extra time for KS2 SATS here. The report stating it is required isn’t enough.

Ask for a meeting with the SENCO. Follow up verbal conversations with emails so you have a paper trail as evidence.
