Sensory meal ideas

Hi everyone

DD is 2 and we’re currently querying sensory processing disorder / autism.
her eating is one of the concerns for me - she’s not underweight, but she definitely has a very limited variety of foods that she will eat which are:

  1. crisps
  2. banana
  3. apple
  4. toast
  5. yoghurt
  6. custard
  7. dry cereal
  8. yoghurt coated raisins
  9. cheese
  10. breadsticks
  11. dairy dunkers
  12. biscuits
  13. creamy tomato pasta bake
  14. garlic bread
  15. chicken nuggets
  16. jam
I have tried absolutely everything under the sun. I still offer our meals along side her safe foods too. (Not that she touches any of it). She won’t touch any veg or Meat (except for chicken nuggets) and knows if I blend veg into any sauce etc.

just feel like I need some more ideas to try and get more variety into my DD, maybe there are suggestions from others with children with the same sort of eating habits for things that I haven’t tried?

thanks! :)

Have a look at ARFID. Keep offering safe foods.

Would DD eat a cheesy pasta sauce?

@YellowRosesWithRedTips thanks! I have looked into ARFID lately, I have taken DD to GP twice about her eating however they’re pretty useless. Just said they wouldn’t refer to peads unless she loses weight (which I’m trying my best to not let happen!) she takes vitamins too.

I have tried her with mac and cheese before but she just seems to take a bite and then throw the rest:( it’s the same with any other sauce base

In some areas you can self refer to dietetics. If you can’t, have you spoken to the HV? I would just keep offering safe foods alongside offering new (on separate plates).

@YellowRosesWithRedTips ill definitely check if i can in my area, fingers crossed!

also as far as my HV, my HV left and now im not really sure what’s going on with them. 2 HV’s came out last time and said they’d review at 2 and half year check regarding ASD/SPD traits which I’m still waiting for, and the last HV I saw in clinic was so rude it’s unbelievable. She basically blamed my “lack of boundaries” for my daughter’s behaviours etc and said that I offer too much sugar. And by giving DD her safe foods eg a jam sandwich if she hasn’t eaten her food im teaching her by not eating she gets what she wants (which isn’t the case at all with DD, this is beyond that) sometimes it’s a task getting her to eat at all so id rather her eat something she’ll actually eat then starve! :(
