Ehcp assessment coming up and I'm worrying

That ds is going to be refused.
He is autistic and in mainstream school atm. He's just gone into year 4 and is already struggling, he says the work is too hard, it hurts his head. He just can't cope. He can't cope with homework, it causes meltdowns at home.
He has sensory needs so noise etc will distract him too.
The ta supports him as much as she can with the other children who also need help too, but we know and reports state that ds cannot work independently as he goes off task, loses concentration and will basically just sit there most of the time.
Maths is the main issue. He is a brilliant reader and copes okay with English but still finds it all a little overwhelming.

He needs 1:1, we know it and school knows it (well certain teachers, his TA does but the senco plays it down a little, don't know why?!)
How likely is he to be granted his echp?
This last week alone he's missed most of school due to making up ailments because of having high anxiety not wanting to go in.
Please any tips

You may be refused, some people are, but if that happens you should appeal. The vast majority of appeals are upheld.

Can you reduce or stop homework? Other than TA support with academic work, what other support is the school providing?

School have reduced maths homework but I don't think they would reduce anything else. He just goes mental when it's time to do homework.

And nothing until we've sent an email to the school. Now they are going to place him in a permanent seat, provide a slope board for his handwriting because it's bad due to flexibility in his elbows according to the ot. That's about it really, they can't give him anymore 1:1 which I understand but I hope they communicate when the ep comes to assess him that he struggles to work Independently.

The school must make reasonable adjustment. They must also make their best endeavours to meet DS’s SEN. If that means no/little HW, that is what they must do.

Some examples of what the school can put in place. Would a laptop and assistive tech help rather than writing? Would DS use noise cancelling headphones or ear defenders? Do they offer anything like Zones of Regulation or other emotional literacy support, sensory circuits, drawing and talking, nurture group? Do they give movement breaks? Does DS have a time out card? Would arriving/leaving school 5/10 mins early via a quieter entrance help? If eating in the dining room is too overwhelming, can they provide somewhere quieter for DS? If DS struggles with the playground, do they have a group/club DS can attend?

Thank you!

They do do some of that but the main issue is ds just can't cope with the work in class... what can be done about that ? Not a lot unless he gets granted the echp and access to 1:1 support, which even then it wouldn't be for all of the lessons.

Sometimes I wonder if he'll be more suited to a special school, he is capable of the work but only with support

If the homework is causing meltdowns just inform the school that he won’t be doing it until after the EP and EHCP assessments and suitable support is out in place. Autism is a disability covered by the Equality Act 2010 and school must make reasonable adjustments, even without an EHCP.

Will school be okay with us just saying ds isn't doing homework atm ?
I'm so worried about him at the moment, he is just worrying all the time about school, he says his new teacher is really strict, he hasn't been having his sensory breaks or being reminded to put on his ear defenders, I've had to speak to his teacher this morning to make sure this starts happening going forward
