Hello,
Does anyone know of any schools similar to Holmewood school (Finchley / Muswell Hill area) that are on the outskirts of London?
I'm looking for similar schools that are commutable to London. Schools for children with ASC who need speech and language help, but not with challenging behaviours. Thank you.

Whereabouts are you?

Depending on where you are Wemms, Unsted Park and, if a DD, Limpsfield Grange in Surrey may be commutable. Depending on specific needs and exactly where you are Egerton Rothesay in Hertfordshire may be worth a look. It isn’t an ASD school, but many of the pupils have ASD. Hillingdon Manor and Odyssey House might be worth considering too.

Thanks for the reply.
We're in zone 2 London at the moment but really want to move either to outskirts or commutable town /area outside London. Have initially been looking at Bromley in Kent as affordable, but not sure about schools. Also Highams Park area... Liked St. Albans but too expensive for housing.
Thanks for the ideas, I'll research them.

Be aware if you move LAs the new LA will review the EHCP and potentially reassess, amend or even cease to maintain. However, unlikely you think it may be it is a possibility. Although you could appeal.

In that case, you could look at Helen Allison school. In the other direction there is Thames Valley school. Both have a mixed reputation, but some parents like the schools and their DC thrive. Or depending on how far you want to commute/how often you would need to be in London you could look further out e.g. to somewhere where Gretton (Cambridgeshire) for school and London for work is commutable. I’m sure there are more, too.

I’d check out the ofstead report that’s just been done before sending a child to wemms …..

The reputation of Wemms is mixed (just like it is for many, many other independent SS) but some like it, which is why I mentioned it.

Also, one has to be read indie SS OFSTED reports whilst understanding the political landscape around indie SSs at the time. This especially applies to relatively new indies where many do not initially meet all the independent school standards even if they are good or outstanding.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking Cambridge might be a bit fat, although I do like it as a city.
Does anyone know about any schools around Bromley or Hitchin? Opposite directions I know!

As I posted, views are mixed (as acknowledged in the most recent OFSTED “Parents too are deeply divided in their views of the school, particularly its leadership. A broadly equal proportion of written comments expressed positive and negative opinions, with a smaller proportion expressing neutral views. Nevertheless, three quarters of parents who completed Ofsted’s online survey, Ofsted Parent View, indicated that they would recommend the school”), some like it and DC have a positive experience which is why I mentioned it, then the OP can decide for themselves.
