Maybe my 12 year old son has Dyspraxia

My son is just finishing year 7 at secondary school. His English teacher approached my to talk about his hand writing as its quite messy and difficult to read. He is left handed and I assumed he struggled because of being left handed. He doesn't like sports and spends a lot of time on his computer at home. He is bright and has done well at school this year. The English teacher has offered him the use of a laptop at school and has asked me to look into getting him checked out at the doctors. She says that learning support dept at school will help him if he needs it. She suggested it could be Dyspraxia. I know he struggled with learning to write cursive joined up at primary school and still struggles. I have suggested that he tries to not do all his letters cursive but he is into the habit now.
He does struggle tying shoe laces, and doesn't catch and throw well. He doesn't do well at sports and lacks interest and confidence and wont get involved. I don't know if this is coincidence but he walked on tip toes and I had to have his achillies tendons stretched via splints and leg casts when he was around 5-6 years old.
I have booked an appointment with the GP next week. So I just want to be prepared for that. thanks

It certainly sounds like a referral for further assessment would be beneficial.

Thank you. Is there anything else I should ask or mention or consider when I got to see the GP

Both mine have dyspraxia.

It overlaps with dyslexia & autism so some things that are considered symptoms of those may also be present.

Sensitivity to taste or texture, sensitivity or imperviousness to hot/cold weather
Disorganisation
Executive function
Following written instructions by bullet point (or 'preferring to do it their own way')

There are dyspraxia checklists online. i printed one out and ticked all the relevant things and took it with me when I went to the GP.

That sounds good idea. As I really don't know much about the condition. Thank you

He sounds very like my son, who’s now 15. He has diagnosed dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder, and is currently being assessed for the attention deficit type of ADHD.

I saw the GP at beginning of August. She said she would refer him so just waiting on that. Starts back at School on Monday and was hoping for something I tell teachers when he goes back. I know it's a waiting game now
