Please can anyone advise me bout WTF I should be writing in the "all about me" section of DS's EHCP assessment? Apparently that's for parents to fill in, but I'm really struggling to get any clarity about what they want to know and how to present it. My head's spinning - this is the second parent request for an EHCP assessment, and the LA have agreed to assess. But DS is highly anxious and selectively mute (ASD), and will just agree with whatever professionals say if that means he can escape the situation. He's had an appointment with the ed psych, and I'm due to speak with her on the phone tomorrow - lots of notes, but I'm desperately confused about this "all about me" section - it's so broad, I can't see how to get all the info down. Do I just write an essay about DS?! Help!! Gin

For example, think about things such as what DS likes/dislikes/what makes him happy, what is important to DS/you and what is important for DS, things that are working well/not so well, strengths/weaknesses, how DS communicates/how others communicate with him, what he wants to do in the future/aspirations, a bit about family/any other important people in DS’s life, important history.

Is the LA also seeking advice from SALT and OT?

I see countless of these in my line of work. Often stuff like "xx enjoys playing with his hamster and will sometimes help clean out the hutch. xx engages well with cooking but prefers baking cupcakes to stir frying or chopping vegetables and does not like washing up due to sensory issues. If gloves are used she can sometimes help unpack the dishwasher. xx is an active member of his scouts group and has achieved an xx badge in xx. XX struggles with social interaction when it comes to one on one but in a group session with a trusted adult can engage with trusted members of the group. xx is very interested in gardening but in strong sunlight will become agitated and withdrawn. xx enjoys swimming but will at times struggle with sunscreen or understand the importance of it so will prefer to wear a rash vest and limit her time. etc.

It can also incorporate personality traits not linked to "issues". xx is a good friend to his NCT group and is more tolerant to the familiar friendships he has created over time. XX loves fish tanks. XX is an expert in Minecraft and Roblox. XX loves picnics and would happily picnic outdoors in 6 inches of snow. The list goes on. XX will not allow the family car to be filled with petrol without her attending to supervise. Just random stuff!
