What do you do if your child fails all their GCSE's?

My DS has quite severe dyslexia and I know how much he is struggling with the exams. He has no idea of what direction to go in once he completes his GCSE's.

Has anyone had a child with Dyslexia who failed everything? Where did you go from there?

Does DS have an EHCP?

There are entry level and level 1 courses. Is DS Y11?

DD (no GCSEs at grade 4) is doing Animal Care at Level 1. She has always wanted to do this, but a MH breakdown meant she missed all y11 and is still recovering. Do well enough at Level 1 you can progress to Level 2, or you can start at Level 2 with 4 GCSEs at grade 3 including maths & English.

Is your issue not more that he has no idea what he wants to do next? That would be the same whether or not he passes. What are his strengths and interests? There must be some college courses on the shortlist?

He doesn't have an ehcp, but he can't do many very simple things like telling the time. The school said he didn't need one which I'm not sure is true.

He was initially interested in doing something in health care but I think he might struggle with this.
I suggested horticulture because he enjoys spending time in the garden but he gas vetoed that. Won't go for a trade.

We have applied for college but I think he's going to struggle big time.

He needs an EHCP

Request an EHCNA yourself. On their website IPSEA have a model letter you can use. Unfortunately, schools do sometimes incorrectly tell parents their DC don’t need or won’t get an EHCP, but the parents go on successfully apply themselves.

Do you have funds for a private dyslexia/dyspraxia assessment? Ours was very helpful in understanding DD's issues as they did a whole bank of tests. (She struggles with an analogue clock too).

We applied for an EHCP in the Sept of y12 when it became clear how she wasn't coping (missed all y11 MH). We were very lucky. It was so obvious she wasn't coping that they agreed the Needs Assessment straight away. EHCP was finalised Feb.

What adjustments does he currently get?
