Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice regarding my DD aged 9 years old and possible SEN.
There are a few issues and I want to support her as much as possible.
Some of the things we have picked up on include:
-She had a speech delay which was picked up on at age 3. There are still some sounds she finds difficult to produce.
- messy handwriting
- overly emotional and sensitive
- reading is generally good, although struggles to break down longer words and will often just make up anything
- struggles to remember things eg forgets to change reading book, struggles to remember to hand in homework on specified day despite reminders
- spelling is not good
- forgetful, forgets what she has done in the day, forgets mathematical concepts, eg practised long multiplication lots but when revisted a month later couldn't remember what to do
- seems immature compared to peers
- has a couple of children she plays with at school
- has a negative outlook on life
- doesn't try very hard with school work at home or at school- will do as little she can get away with
- very shy in new situations and unfamiliar people
- sleep issues, struggles to fall to sleep
- will read at any opportunity she can
- class teacher not overly concerned (potential masking at school?)
I know that list seems negative but I'm just trying to give some insight to her. Local services are a Year long waiting list And I'm at a bit of a loose end. If anyone has any advice or similar tales I would appreciate the support.
