DS 9yo. Only recently diagnosed about 6 months ago, haircuts, nail cutting, brushing teeth, certain things on skin.. cause total meltdowns, have been given great professional advice, I am learning quickly how to help him best and support his needs. Long family history with him of being told ‘he’s fussy or picky’ he ‘will grow out of it’ I need to be firmer with him (get a grip kind of attitude) Since diagnosis all seems to make sense now and life is easier than before, however the eating side of things is not budging. I’ve been given so much advice and guidance and none of it is working, only eats beige food, nothing hot or cold. He can look at food and it’s enough to make him gag he’s so sensory. One of our tasks is to start with him touching the food just with a finger, if I put a tray of food near him he will scream and gag.. I’ve been told to persist but it’s so stressful for us both. Does anyone with a sensory child have any advice or suggestions please?

Have you looked at ARFID? You could ask for a referral to a specialist clinic such as at Maudsley or GOSH.

Does DS have ongoing sensory OT input?

@FloatingBean Hi, he does, at the moment they’re recommending to continue with the plan, I don’t think it’s working though. I have expressed this, I will definitely look at ARFID though thank you so much
