School sends back home early every day

Hi, I'm looking for an advice for a friend, apologies if I don't use the correct terminology etc
She has a child with autism diagnosis in year 1. Only just moved to a new school as the previous one didn't want him and pushed for a special needs school. New school is mainstream and initially refused to take him due to various reasons like lack of staff, lack of individual space and "inability to remove heavy objects" but friend pushed and he started two weeks before Easter on the condition that those two weeks would be introductory so one hour a day every morning.
It's week three now, first week after Easter, the school now decided that due to his behaviour (loud, hyper active) and lack of cooperation he permanently will be only able to attend school 9-10am and wont be joining the class but work with his assistant in a separate room. Both parents work full time and are rather shocked as you can imagine as they don't have any other childcare available.
Have you got any advice, please?

The school are illegally excluding DS. Your friend should not allow it to continue and should refuse to collect early. She should email the headteacher stating they are informally, unlawfully excluding DS and he will be attending full time unless he is formally excluded.

If DS doesn’t already have an EHCP your friend should request an EHCNA. If there is already an EHCP an early review needs to be called.

I agree with everything PP says. Lots of info here on what makes exclusions legal/illegal. Your friend needs to contact the school and say he needs to be there full time or they need to legally exclude him so that other things can be put in place for him. He is entitled to a full time education.

Exclusion from school

Children with special educational needs (“SEN”) and/or disabilities are much more likely to be excluded from school than their classmates. Only the head teacher of a school (or the teacher in charge of a pupil referral unit or the principal...

Thank you both so much. My friend is so worried but doesn't like confrontation so I'm trying to help.

Unfortunately DC whose parents know the system and can advocate for them get better support. It shouldn’t be like that, but it is. Your friend is going to need to fight for support and ensure DS receives the support he is entitled to.

Get the child tested for adhd privately....
ASD and adhd are very common.

Meds could help if it's adhd
