Autism referral

My DS who is 10 years old has just had a referral from his school sendco for an ASD assessment. He is not a clear case of ASD, although he has some quirks and can be a bit anxious when faced with a challenge, he doesn't really have day-to-day struggles. He sleeps and eats well, he doesn't have any sensory problems, he has a group of friends, and he attends group activities ie scouts and a theatre club with no issues. He has never had a typical meltdown, although he does cry quite easily.
He will be going to secondary school this year, and so any potential issues will likely become clearer then.
Anyway, I wondered what happens now. The referral has been put in, do I just wait for a couple of years?! Do I get a form to fill in and then they decide whether or not to take it further?

The process varies area to area, some send further questionnaires on acceptance of the referral, others don’t.

Ah! Ok thank you. So the sendco will fill in a questionnaire form, and then I may or may not have to do one too?
Is there anywhere I can find what the process is locally? The sendco has actually left the school now, so it'll be a new person when we go back after the Easter holidays. 🙄

There may be some information on the service’s website. The best way is probably asking around locally at/in any SEN groups.

Thank you, this is all pretty new to me. Would I look up my county's ASD referral service?

My daughters senco put in an asd referral then we had to wait to see if the hospital would accept it.we then got a letter to say they would but it's a 42 week wait until the first appointment.
