What type of primary school is good for an pda child? Mainstream with 1:1 support or specialist school, independent school? What worked/works with your child? Tips, strategies, please.

What school is suitable depends on the pupils individual needs and the specific schools you are looking at. Mainstream independents aren’t always supportive of SEN so if you go that route you need to ask detailed questions first.

Might be worth a read of this paper on strategies for pupils with PDA, @mamaraptor?

Understanding Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome in Children: A Guide for Parents, Teachers and Other Professionals, 2011, Christie et al, is also an excellent read.

Thanks, it's so informative. I agree everything it says in it. Pda children needs high level of individual support and their teachers can't be expected to deal with their needs and the whole class. On the sunny-side they have started using the strategies and we see a positive change. I think the school will help to sort the support out, especially when he starts year 1. After all The support will benefit the teacher and the other kids in the class.
