Please help.
Child is in yr 5. Struggled in school from beginning.
First school said fine when in school but real issues around school evident at home.
Changed schools and initially the difference was amazing. Child has diagnosis which first school didn't think warranted any extra support. Changed schools and support has been in place from day 1 Child was so much happier and difference in progress was shocking. School team have a really good understanding of child and where they need support. Really thought we had cracked it.
months later and child is distressed again and begging to be home educated. We are back to meltdowns and violent outbursts.
pre change we thought home ed was our only option but the changed had been so positive.
I'm so torn as I don't want to home ed but we can't watch child being this distressed and as child is getting older the violence becomes a concern for safety of others in the home

Home ed also means this will mean 24/7.where as at least no firing school hours I have a break from challenging behaviour> I would also have to stop the work I do In daytime.

Child has many wonderful qualities too but post is focussing on the challenges

Does DC have an EHCP? If not you should apply. If they do you need an early review.

Don’t deregister and EHE. Parents often find it easier for DC to get support when they remain on the school’s roll even if their DC can’t attend. Crudely, you are someone’s ‘problem’. Whereas it is easier for professionals to sweep DC’s needs under the carpet if you EHE. And the LA will say you are making suitable alternative arrangements thereby relieving them of their duties.

If DC can’t attend school full time the LA must make suitable alternative arrangements for a full time education.

Have you had social care assessments?
