DS school on EHCP is excellent BUT we’re massively struggling logistically/financially

DS has a place for the last year at an incredible specialist provision which has been a game changer for his wellbeing and acess to education, SLT & OT integrated in the school week etc.

He has moved from local state school to this new school which has 19 weeks holidays rather than the regular state 13.

DS is 11 but has significant sensory needs, ASD and likely ADHD so finding appropriate holiday clubs/provision is hard as more complex options wouldn’t provide him with a peer group but regular holiday clubs he massively struggles with.

We have needed to either pay an experienced babysitter £80-90 a day or we’ve been taking wedges of unpaid leave.

this juggle is having a huge impact logistically and financially on us….. I work 3 days a week and my husband full time.

Im stuck that it’s the most appropriate setting for him and thrilled that county agreed placement and he’s thriving but there is this gap of 6 weeks provision….which we have to fill.

Is there any other options/aspects people can think of to support this scenario?

Thankyou

Have you had social care assessments? A carer’s assessment for you and an assessment via the disabled children’s team for DS.

Do you claim DLA for DS? Have you checked whether you are eligible for UC? - the threshold is often much higher than expected for families with disabled DC, especially if you also have a childcare element.

As has been said parents of SEND children have right to work where the need of the child is beyond that of typical child.
Apply for disability social care assessment and watch Dr Luke Clements two part lecture on YouTube given to Hull
