Hi

I am looking for any recommendations/ feed back on specialist dyslexia private independent schools across the UK. My daughter is 13/ Year 8 and I need to look at schools across the UK that might suit her. She is masking and refusing school and we need to move. Ideally a school with a large peer group of girls similar to her so they 'get one another'. She has mild autism, moderate dyslexia, moderate ADHD. I would move to the location but the school has to be a good fit for both of us.( single Mom)
We have a place at Bredon but she is anxious about her peer group not having similar interests. Living in or near a city or town would be preferable.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you looked at Burlington House and Abington House, both in London? Although I think they have similar a ratio of girls:boys as Bredon.

Does DD have an EHCP? If so, have you considered Limpsfield Grange? It is an ASD school but is girl only. Also be aware if DD does have an EHCP moving LA would mean the new LA would review the EHCP and potentially amend, reassess or even cease to maintain.

In the meantime, if DD can’t attend school the LA must provide alternative education.

Hi

No I haven't. They look great but I couldn't afford London as an option with as EHCP in hand. I am submitting a EHCP request letter. I lived abroad for a long time and didn't understand how the system works! I know there is a long waiting period and lots of jumping through hoops. I have been advised to get the letter in asap.
I have been in touch with Limpfield Grange, lovely school. No spaces unfortunately. I can't believe there is only one dedicated school for girls!
I will look at Appleford and Northease Manor and Summerhill got mentioned to me the other day?
Any feed back is greatly received. Thank you in advance.

I would love to hear of any parent with girls age 13 ( similar age) with complex Sen needs including ASD and what schools are working for their wonderful beautiful selves.

If you don’t have to appeal the EHCP process takes 20 weeks. Many do have to appeal though, unfortunately. Make sure the LA sticks to the timescales. To learn more about the system have a read of IPSEA and SOSSEN’s websites and also the SENCOP. Be aware if you move LA with an EHCP the new LA will review the EHCP and potentially amend, reassess or even cease to maintain.

Limpsfield Grange isn’t wholly independent therefore on its own being ‘full’ (which isn’t defined in law) is not enough of a reason to refuse to name it on an EHCP. The LA has to prove the school is so full admitting DC is incompatible. The bar is high. It is more than an “adverse effect”, “impact on” or “prejudicial to”.

The LA can, and must, name the school regardless of the school’s objections unless the LA can prove:
-The setting is unsuitable for the age, ability, aptitude or special educational needs (“SEN”) of the child or young person; or
-The attendance of the child or young person would be incompatible with the provision of efficient education for others; or
-The attendance of the child or young person would be incompatible with the efficient use of resources.
