DD is 13 and diagnosed autistic last year. School has always been difficult for her but as she fits the academic, well behaved tick boxes school generally don't see an issue. Thankfully we do have a head of year who does see her challenges and is very supportive. Although year 8 started amazingly the last term has got increasingly difficult for her and have let her stay home on several days when I could see it was just too much. We've had a great half term but I'm dreading Monday morning.

Anyone else relate to this? Any tips or suggestions as feel like I have no idea if I'm doing the right thing at the moment

What support is the school providing? Have you spoken to the SENCO?

If DD can’t attend school full time the LA must make alternative arrangement to ensure DD receives a suitable, full time education. This provision should begin once it becomes clear DD will miss 15 days, the days don’t need to have already been missed or consecutive. You should also apply for an EHCNA.

School support pretty much non existent. Dd has an sen plan which I'm pretty sure most teachers havent read which includes very basic adjustments. Head of year is great and if I email if there is a particular anxiety that day he goes out of his way to help in anyway he can.

Meeting with the head of year and senco hopefully next week. Had such a good start in September which was just after her diagnosis so didn't consider ehcp but actually think I need to push for one. Was always concerned as she is doing very well academically would be difficult to get one but the more I've read starting to see that's not the case.

Didn't know about the 15 day rule, thanks for your message. That's really helpful

I hope your meeting goes well. Follow it up with an email afterwards so you have a paper trail of evidence should you need it. The school should be providing more support.
