Reposting as this section might be more appropriate..

Hello and happy new year all.

I have been looking into More House and Kingswood House for our DS10 recently confirmed to have ASD as well as mild inattentive ADHD subtype.

Fwiw, our son is a very mild mannered, a kind gentle soul, with high IQ, and a love of maths/science etc. His main challenges are social skills, staying focused on subjects which aren’t of interest, and producing work reflecting is real ability.

Does anyone happen to have recent experiences of either school with a child with a similar sounding profile and can provide feedback on how they nurture and develop the children?

Also, if there is any experience of what is offered in terms of other subjects at GCSE (in particular MoreHouse where I cannot see very detailed info on their website) etc, that would be insightful. In addition, do they have deadlines like typical mainstream schools for access to year 7 onwards. Presently our son is Y5.

Any insight on these schools or other suggestions of course will be gratefully received. Thank you 😊

Our son started at More House last year. The school is fantastic at helping the boys find their social feet and develop their learning skills, even in subjects they don’t enjoy. All the staff know the boys well and there is very much a “family feel” about the school. We haven’t reached GCSE choices with our son yet, but there seems to be a wide choice available (from talking to other parents). I don’t think they accept new boys after the end of Y8, but other than that boys seems to start in most years. Your best bet is to speak to the admissions team, they are very helpful and will steer you through the process.

When I visited Kingswood House, they told me children can take either GCSE Mathematics at Foundation level (grades 1 – 5) or Higher level (grades 4 – 9). Not sure if this applies to all their GCSE.
