Can you get a new ASD diagnosis (re-diagnosis) report?

Is it possible to get a re-diagnosis for ASD or a new diagnosis report?

My child was diagnosed two years ago and the NHS report contains factual errors as well as comments relating to behaviours from toddlerhood that do not have bearing on their behaviour today. I also feel that some behaviours have been misconstrued to present my child as more disabled than they are. Current primary school also feels that there are ADHD traits that have not been diagnosed.

I am not trying to minimise my child's needs or diagnosis but would like a more up-to-date diagnosis report when going to secondary school. Happy to go to a private practitioner if needed.

You can get up to date assessments from SALT, OT, psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, ed psych etc., but you won’t get another diagnosis report.

It was right for toddler behaviour to be included in the report even if they aren’t currently an issue. At the time you could have requested the factual errors were corrected. You could still try to have this done, or a note added to records.

If you think one is necessary have you requested a referral for an ADHD assessment?

You should have raised the factual errors at the time. Behaviours from birth should be included as we look at overall development. If you want an up to date assessment your best bet is probably an EP as they are best placed to do a more holistic assessment and provide information for transition.

Wrt an ADHD assessment you will need to go through the normal referral process in your area.

Thankyou. Diagnosis was during lockdown and was very difficult and time consuming to get a copy of the report and by the time I got it (months and many phone calls and personal visits later) I was both relieved to get it and disappointed that it was not more explanatory of the diagnosis, and I did not pursue corrections to errors. I did not realise the diagnosis letter was of any importance, until a prospective school asked for it. Maybe I can ask for corrections now, although two years later they may not do it.
Thankyou as well for ideas for who to approach for an up to date assessment.
