Hi all, after a bit of advice really! Went into school for a iep review and they've said my son (6 ,august baby) needs an ehcp as his teachers feel he needs to have a 1-1 with him thought the day and they don't have enough staff so the ehcp will be able to fund this. I read a bit online about ehcp but still don't really understand it. I am ND so would anyone be able to explain to me really simply what the ehcp is and if they are asking for it for the right reasons? Thank you ☺️

It's a legal document that sets out the needs of a child, what their outcomes should be to make progress against their needs and what provision is required to achieve this, based on professional reports. It is needs based and the first step is an assessment of needs. The process can be fairly adversarial with local authority who carry it out. Look at IPSEA or SOSSEN for more information.

I second Rolling’s post. Applying for an EHCNA is the right thing to do for DD. In the meantime if the school need more funding to meet DD’s needs they can apply for high needs top up funding.
