How long to wait for EHCP to be up and running?

My child has just started year 7, new school, 1st EHCP. They are dyslexic and also have dysgraphia, dyscalculia and ADHD. They have 24-25 hours support and seem to so far have a TA in most lessons (a different TA each lesson). I had a meeting with the Senco 3 weeks ago to go through the EHCP and a few suggestions were made including dropping language lessons, reading with an adult during registration, doing Lexia (I think). Senco said all the teachers had a brief summary of my child but a detailed plan would be put together so they are a aware of the needs. 2 weeks after the meeting I asked for an update and have had no reply a week later. I am particularly concerned now as assessments are going to take place in various subjects next week and I don't know if I should email those teachers and ask if my child will get extra time, can use a laptop etc. When should I expect the EHCP to be fully up and running? Things like my child needs printed notes from all lessons is not happening yet. Is it too early? I don't know whether to chase the Senco again or ask individual teachers? Basically, I don't know what to expect in the first half term of secondary school. Any advice?

I would expect staff to be aware of DC’s needs prior to the start of the year and the provision in the EHCP to be up and running now. Email both the SENCO and the teachers.

Did you meet with the SENCO last academic year? Is the provision in the EHCP specified and quantified? Or is it vague and woolly with wording such as “access to” “would benefit from” “up to” “or equivalent” “regular”?

Unless specifically stated in the EHCP a different TA each lesson is often how secondary schools operate. If DC needs 1 or 2 consistent people it needs to be specified in the EHCP.

Thanks for the reply. The school was only named in the summer holidays so no chance to talk before the start of term. The EHCP is worded like "Child will be provided with notes from lessons, will receive daily access to literacy software, will receive 2 x 30 mins per week of x,y,z". It seems quite clearly worded to me.

I will go back to the Senco and copy in teachers.

Unfortunately, “will receive daily access to literacy software” isn’t enforceable, “access to” is too vague. As is “literacy software”, the specific software needs stating.

The provision that is detailed, specified and quantified in F must be provided, remind the school of that. If it isn’t you can enforce it. If it continues email the LA’s Director of Children’s Services highlighting the situation, reminding them they are ultimately responsible for ensuring the provision is provided and state if it continues you will be forced to take enforcement action. Then if it does continue contact SOSSEN for help with a pre-action letter.
