Adult ADHD- would medication make my brain feel ‘connected’

Just that really, I suspect I have ADHD and have done since my teens (now early 30’s).

I could seek diagnosis but would probably only do this if I wanted to be medicated.

I think I’m just after experiences of people who started medication as adults. Did it really make much difference? I think the one area I could really do with help is helping my brain feel a bit more connected. I quite often feel ‘out of body’ and zone out easily which I think has really effected my confidence and ability when it comes to learning to drive in particular. Ive been learning for years but I just can’t get it to ‘click’ which is both frustrating and anxiety inducing!

Most other areas I have coping mechanisms in place that get me through day to day but the separation between my brain and my body is something I can’t quite conquer.

Is this something that medication could help with?

I’m 53 and was diagnosed earlier this year and I can honestly say that the meds (50mg Elvanse) have ENTIRELY turned my life around. ITS like the difference between night and day. I finally feel like I can function but at the same time I haven’t lost any of ‘me’, if you know what I mean.

I truly believe that meds help with that brain/physical disconnect that you’ve described, too. Honestly it’s like finding a clearing in the woods x

@YeahYeahYeahWhatevs Thank you so much for your reply, that’s so reassuring to hear.
Im glad you finally got the treatment you needed!

If you don’t mind me asking, did you ever feel embarrassed admitting it to anyone? I feel like I’m ‘making a fuss’ without a diagnosis but I think that’s probably come from childhood when our problems were minimised or laughed at (without making this a therapy session! 😂)
