Hello

I'm just reaching out in the hopes someone can give me some good advice and contacts to pass on.

My dear friend has been really struggling to support her daughter who's been officially diagnosed with autism (high functioning/Asperger's - although I know it's not referred to as that anymore) and she's demand avoidant.

She started secondary last year and knowing that wasn't the right school she's been offered a much less academic and time demanding option at a local SEN facility. Even this is proving impossible to get her to attend.

My friend is doing everything she can, and everything right - but after 2 years of fights. Verbal abuse, violent attacks etc. she at breaking point and I worry for her. How much longer can a person deal with this level of stress and lack of knowing what the day holds.

Shes 100% committed to helping her daughter, there's no doubt about that however I worry that a day coming soon she's just going to break down herself.

Is there any support for parents in the Uk. What happens when the parents reach a point that they just can't help anymore? Is there a department that she can turn to, psychologists? Any other professional?

Scope offer mentoring if the DD’s diagnosis is recent. Have a look at the PDA society’s resources and Yvonne Newbold’s resources too.

Presumably DD has an EHCP? Is there SALT, OT and MH support via that? Are they receiving any social care support?
