Hi All,

Just a quick question, DS17 currently receives the highest rate of both mobility & care components of PIP.

He lives at home with DH and I and were just wondering whether he would be eligible for UC when he leaves full time education?

If so, is it means tested?

Any help would be much appreciated. TIA

UC is means tested. Capital over £16k will mean DS isn’t eligible, capital between £6k and £16k reduces entitlement. How much someone can earn before no longer being entitled varies depending on what elements they are entitled to and whether they have a work allowance.

Even if DS stays in full time non-advanced education he may still be able to claim, although if you are claiming UC/tax credits for him they would end. The rules around those in full time education who are eligible for UC have changed, but some are still able to claim. Here is Contact’s booklet on the matter.
