Just need a rant… 4 days into the summer holidays and i’v already had enough. I have a 4 year old son with ASD and GDD he is mentally a 2 year old. He is a extremely happy child and extremely hyperactive, cant sit for 2 seconds, doesn’t like tv or tablets, not interested in toys either. He stims by screaming so loud my ears ring, jumping and throwing anything and everything to make a crashing noise. Sometimes he is generally just naughty and doesn’t matter what I do to try and discipline him he just laughs and I genuinely think he doesn’t understand right from wrong. I take him out and he’s overstimulated so he has a meltdown, I keep him home and he’s under stimulated so he sensory seeks and destroys the house. I try and do sensory activities with him but he does not like me to join in and he will be interested for 2 minutes before getting bored.

if any mums are going through the same thing, some advise would be much appreciated 😊

Hi @Poppy1604
No advice but here for support, I’m in a similar position with a 3 year old with ASD.
It’s tough! We had an almighty melt down this morning during an outing to the park!

Hi this was my post, support is much appreciated too lol. Its so hard and only parents who are going through the same understand. Due to his speech delay we have no clue what he understands other than simple instructions. Been on the waiting list for SNHV for 2 years and still waiting. We had a better day today luckily no major meltdowns so thats a plus. He did tip all the cotton buds down the toilet but its not the worst lol

100% I'm hoping to find some local mums in a similar situation as I find it so hard when you have no one who understands.

Oh no about cotton buds! We had a terrible
meltdown when the park we usually go to was closed for maintenance work! 🤦‍♀️

I hope you find some 🤞🏻Oh bless you, its like the end of their world when something like that happens and whats even worse is when strangers stare obviously thinking you have a spoilt child when that is far from the truth. My son looks like a 6-7 year old as he's so tall so people thinks he’s older then he is.

@Poppy1604 @Poppy160 how’s your little boy doing now a year on? I resonate with your post and I’m wondering if it gets easier? Thanks x

Hi! Thank you for checking in! I wouldn’t say its easier but it’s different. Reading my post from last year brings flashbacks 😂 He is 5 now, started school and thats has been great for him! his communication and understanding has improved he is developmentally like a early 3 year old now. behaviour is up and down. He’s more independent now so he can happily take himself to the garden to play in sand or on the trampoline which has helped massively with days at home as I get to breath and have a tea. I have learned where to take him out so he doesn’t get over stimulated, like long walks which he loves and also burns his energy. He plays with toys now, train sets being his favourite. So actually in ways it has got easier but new challenges always pop up so its swings and roundabouts. How are you coping and does your little one sound like my son back then?
