Resources for a speech delay

Not sure whether this is the right place to post this but just looking for some recommendations for increasing speech in a little one. Mine is only 15 months and can only make one constanent sound (da). Depending on what you read it's nothing to worry about, elsewhere it seems like he might be 'behind'... so yes I'm aware I may sound ridiculous but I don't know, I'm not leaving anything to chance. Are there any books or other resources anyone would recommend to encourage talking? (Would be willing to buy if anyone's selling) x

I would say it is never too young to start focusing on speech and language. Any activities will help the child whether they are delayed or not.

I use an app called MySunshine to share pictures of my little one with the wider family. They posted this blog about speech delay which I found really helpful. I started doing these things at home and noticed an improvement.

They are about to release a new app for speech delay. I don't know what it will be like but looking forward to trying it out.

I'm a SALT (newly qualified but all registered and finally allowed to say that) although I work adult caseloads... but I'd have a look at the fun activities section of the Hanen website www.hanen.org/Helpful-Info.aspx for some ideas and also the BBC tiny happy people www.bbc.co.uk/tiny-happy-people

Personally - I wouldn't be worrying yet - you'll probably find that you get strings of da-da-da and then other sounds will come in in a fairly predictable order and you'll get strings like da-ba-da and then that period where they sound like they're chattering away to themselves - so he's going in the right order.

Lots of reading and naming. Picture cards are great. Our salt did a posting activity (literally a cardboard box with a slit in it) we would look at picture I'd name it then lo would post it. In our area you can self refer to salt so I did at 18m .

Thank you all @CoffeeWithCheese @LucyBrown88 @autienotnaughty I apologize for not replying sooner I didn't get any notifications! Will look into all the recommendations, thank you. Bought the two to talk book and getting some mileage out of that. Now a month on and getting some mmm sounds (like his lips have been glued together). Truthfully we have other concerns beyond speech as he has dreadfully poor eye contact and this seems to be hampering our ability to interact with him organically, everything feels a bit staged! Like the idea of posting picture cards, I think he could do that xx

I found the book “More than Words” very useful, maybe see if you can get it from your local library

Hi @Cluelessmum5

I hope you don't mind me asking how your son got? I'm very early but I've been told my son is behind by the HV on his 12mo check, just looking to see how things turned out for others. I hope all is well
