In-year admissions in SE London primary (ASD)

Our DS1, aged five, has an ASD diagnosis and is also DME (reads Oxford Reading Tree level 10 books fluently, can multiply 7x4 in his head without knowing times tables).

He's currently at a local primary in reception and coping well with low-level SEN support. He seems happy at school and the teachers are okay with him. We chose the school because they explicitly mentioned SEN in the parents videos, and are OFSTED outstanding. He got his ASD diagnosis after being expelled from a private nursery due to behavioural problems, aged 3 - so, we know his SEN can cause issues.

We're hoping to move house into Lambeth borough this year, or next year, which will mean moving DS1. My husband is considering not moving house because he's worried about DS1 being messed up emotionally by the transition, and him ending up randomly allocated to a school that can't cope with him.

I just wondered if anyone had done an in-year admission with an ASD/DME kid and, if so, how it went and whether you can give us any advice. Advice on where in Lambeth and Southwark specifically might have places and be able to handle our DS1 would be great too.

Does DS have an EHCP?

Unless DS has an EHCP your choice of school is likely to be limited due to the infant class size rules.

If he does have an EHCP be aware if you move LA the new LA will review and potentially amend, reassess or cease to maintain.
