11 yr old DS: how do we know if it's age or ADD?

I know there have been various threads around this but not quite satisfied by reading them, so here goes.

We are worried about 11 yr old DS and don't know whether his behaviour is simply being 11 or whether he is showing signs of ADD.

On the pluses: he's clever, sporty, emotionally very mature, a great conversationalist, polite yada yada.

On the other side;

  • often told in class (for years) he doesn't listen/talks too much (is he just bored? Or can't he help himself?
  • Calls out when he's not meant to. Rushes his work and makes mistakes (although he is doing good work)
  • often talking and is noisy but doesn't like loud noises
  • has to be told the same thing repeatedly - empty your school bag, do your teeth, etc - all things that we keep saying should be part of his routine and are expected of him daily
  • LOVES the screen. Would do hours of gaming if we let him - we don't. But I think he thinks about it alot in between
  • Doesn't seem to like doing this on his own much. If we say go to your room and do something, he honestly seems lost
  • apologies a lot for things he knows he gets wrong (he can get irritated with us over it, then calm down and say sorry), so shows self awareness, BUT nothing changes

I don't want to pathologise something unnecessarily but equally, I'm worried as he's about to go to a big secondary school

Thanks for reading.

If you have these concerns now they won't go away. I would start by having a conversation with the class teacher and the SENCO at school.

Sounds like my 9 year old boy who just received his adhd diagnosis last Week. I would pursue it further.
