List of benefits of EHCP

Is there a good list anywhere of the benefits of having an EHCP at GCSE level onwards? Aside from the provisions in it of course.

As I understand it, it gives more flexibility to

  • implement exam access arrangements without further proof
  • flexibility on whether to resit Maths & English GCSEs

But what else?

(y12, just recently got the EHCP. Want to know if there is stuff I'm not aware of).

Other than the provision in it which is the big benefit and the placement it can:

Ability to access the LAs transport offer and independent travel training
Provide evidence of need for benefits etc.
Free educational provision until 25

I’m sure there’s probably other benefits too.

I am right though re resitting the GCSEs and access arrangements, aren't I?
Is there anything else like that?

Yes, the EHCP can be used as evidence for access arrangements.

Flexibility on resitting maths and English isn’t so straightforward. Not everyone with an EHCP will be exempt, only those for whom their placement has assessed them as being unable to study towards GCSE or stepping stone qualifications, There’s further information here.

A full assessment of your child's needs which should be set out in the EHCP, so that everyone dealing with them know what their difficulties and strengths are.

A summary of all the help your child must have, so that again everyone working with them in school knows how to support them.

If the help your child needs involves a cost over and above what is normally available in mainstream schools, money to fund that support.

The fact that the local authority has.a statutory duty to arrange all the support set out in the EHCP, so you can enforce that if anyone tries to ignore it. However, that does depend on the support being properly specified and detailed in the EHC Plan

Thank you.
Just to be clear I am not talking bout things explicit in the plan, I am talking about 'side benefits' - things for which having an EHCP opens the doors to.

When DD started college without an EHCP I was asking for thing and kept being asked 'does she have an EHCP?' as if the answer yes would provide more flexibility.

Now the answer is yes, she does have an EHCP, so I am trying to see what extra benefits / flexibility it might bring.

Teen I did send a copy of Ds's EHCP off, with the evidence for his PIP, have no idea if it helped or not though.

Would be great if it did open more doors for support. The social care teams at our LA, almost seem to use it as an excuse and say that an EHCP means education will support, so they are not needed.

Another benefit is some colleges use having an EHCP as one of the eligibility criteria for their discretionary bursary.
