How useful is an ADHD/ADD diagnosis when changing schools?

My DD is in y5 at a very academic independent school, she has been assessed for dyslexia but although she clearly has memory issues and ticks a lot of boxes she does not qualify as dyslexic. The junior school has been excellent and very supportive but we know that the senior school will be very difficult for her so are looking for somewhere less academically rigorous.
We have our suspicions, which are shared by her SENCO and special needs teacher, that she may have ADD, she is not disruptive in class.
Our question is: is this the right time to be looking into another ‘label’ - will it do her a favour or will prospective schools be put off?
Thanks

It’s not a label, it is a diagnosis.

The schools may look on it negatively, many independent schools aren’t supportive of SEN and when they are many charge extra for SEN support. However, DD still has the same needs even without the diagnosis so you may find they aren’t supportive anyway or manage her out if they think her needs are too great.

A diagnosis may help with access arrangements for entrance exams and DD may be able to concentrate better if she tries medication.

Thanks for replying.
DH is of the opinion that we get her in to a new school before looking for a diagnosis (or not), I’m torn but will be going to lots of open days so hopefully will get an idea of the best course of action from them.

Some independent schools require parents to declare SEN or suspected SEN on application so you may have to declare it anyway.
