Hi
My son is 2.5 years old. He was a very early developer in terms of fine and gross motor skills. Spoke his first word at 9 months and now he is speaking in sentences, using the right tense 70 per cent of the time and his vocabulary is large. You can have full conversations with him. He also listens to instructions and carries them out. Issues we are having mainly relating to his behaviour his very hyper, throws a lot of toys sometimes when his frustrated, to get attention or just because he wants to. He does listen to us most of the time but there are occasions when it seems like he just chooses not to. He stares into space a maybe once or twice a week. Most recently he seems to be making more noise and funny sounds (not sure how else to explain that). His very friendly, comes across as confident compared to his peers when meeting new people, sleeps through the night (we co sleep so that helps I think) and is generally a beautiful happy little boy.
Anyway.. nursery have always said since he started at 14 months that he has good days and bad days when he just chooses not to listen or follow instructions. When I spoke to them about this more formally when he was about 19 months they said they thought he may be gifted or on the spectrum. Behaviour has continued but I have really noticed a difference in the last month or so where especially in the evening he seems quite manic.
I had his health visitor appointment (2.5 year check) last week and according to their scoring system he is advanced in most areas as a 60 month year old. That particular day he was having a bad day and throwing bricks around and just generally running around the room and laughing. I explained my concerns to her about what nursery have said and also how we are struggling some days at home and she has referred us to a clinic I think it's a positive behaviour class for someone more specialist to observe him and probably my parenting too.
I'm not sure what I'm asking really but from what I have read it seems like he could have adhd but cannot be formally diagnosed until 5. If this is the case will we get help in how to manage his behaviour better in the meantime? Does this sound like adhd to you or autism?
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
