Hi everyone

Could anyone please recommend a good thorough Ed psy in London. Someone that will do full blood tests too to determine any vit deficiencies. In addition it would be great if they were not specialised to any area but general so that there is no bias. Thanks ever so much.

EPs don't do blood tests.

You would need to see a GP/ paeds for bloods @viio as EP don’t do blood tests.

Thank you that’s helpful. I know someone whose psy ed asked for a specific tests which GP then did… but good to know they mainly don’t do that thanks.

Any good Ed psy anyone can recommend?

The EP asking the GP to do bloods is rather different to your OP wanting an EP that will do bloods themselves. If you think bloods are necessary you can approach the GP yourself.

I agree @Imitatingdory -

@viio what concerns do you have? What’s pushing you towards at Ed psych instead of a child psych?

I am in my final year of psy degree so understand various options and would like to get an assessment for primary education child. There is also a family history of vit d deficiency which can have an effect on the whole body etc.

The reason I am asking for recommendation is because there are Ed psy and then there are really good Ed psy like in any profession… so recommendation would help.

My child was severely delayed in speech (now totally caught up), mild cognitive but has made up so much of that delay however, reading/writing still a bit tricky (although huge progress was made). Had evaluation by neuro developmental consultant at 4y and told no obvious issues come back in a couple of years… whilst we are very pleased with the progress Ed psy could help us make even better progress…

In many CCGs GPs will not routinely test for VitD unless symptomatic or have certain medical conditions.

It is recommended everyone in the UK takes Vit D supplements from October-March anyway, and those at high risk year round.

Tbh my first port of call would be checking sight and hearing tests are up to date.

Following that I’d see about vit d and iron bloods.

Following that I’d look more to a tutor or an OT.
Do remember the huge impact that home learning has had on all chn; I would imagine you’ve experienced it yourself if you’ve been studying at home too.

I assume school have been cooperative and supportive?

I would recommend Hemispheres Movement excellent educational OT and Ed psych

Thank you all he has made such progress and I am super happy but it’s hard so I want him to learn and be happy whilst doing it. The thought is that Ed psy may help highlight where we can help and step in. I am totally hands on and do constant research and as a mum I feel something my have been missed. We are seeing private paediatrician and ENT so hopefully after no issues there are confirmed we can do psy ed assessment. Thanks @MamaJubba it’s hard finding good OT and Ed psy still looking but have some leads… need to look hemispheres movement.
