ASD son being bullied

My ASD son has just gone into year 9 after a horrible year of bullying last year. A week on and the bullying is back but different children this time. I describe him as quirky and unique others call him weird!!! He loves being him and no amount of bullying changes him in fact it makes him even more determined to not change. My DH thinks I should have changed him into a normal child when he was at primary as if he was normal he wouldn't be suffering with this bullying.

My question is because he is autistic, and different I know he is a target for bullying and if he moved schools would it be the same wherever he went. On the upside though he also has a massive group of friends they are all austistic or have SEN. He loves lunchtimes and break times it is just lesson times because he says basically the kids are so disruptive and he likes to work hard and he is mocked for being good. He certainly isn't scared of the bullies and stands up to them which makes it worse as the more they take the mickey out of his quirks the more he does it so actually he isn't helping himself - I would worry if I moved him what if he didn't make any friends and was bullied but seeing him and hearing from other kids what he has to go through daily is horrible. So are autistic, quirky kids bullied reagrdless wherever they go??

Sorry to hear he is having such a hard time. The school should have a policy and procedures to help to support this - especially if the bullying is happening at school. (It's much much harder to manage outside of school/if it's online but they should still have guidance and procedures for this).
