Hi guys,
I hv a 6yr old boy and I've been going around in circles in order to get support for him.. he has feeding disorder ARFID and 16p 11.2 microdeletion, he is very hyper loads things.. which made me query if was asd or adhd or something else..
He has had a CAMHS assessment and they've told us he has learning difficulties..

Now will he get support from school for this snd does it come under SEN or not..
Any advice appreciated TIA x

Support in school should be needs based, not diagnosis led, so receiving a diagnosis shouldn't make a difference, especially since learning difficulties isn't specific and can vary greatly person to person. It doesn't really mean much on its own.

Yes, it probably counts as SEN, but then he had all the same needs prior to seeing CAMHS so probably counted as having SEN then, you don't need a diagnosis to be on the SEN register.

School were refusing to support him, saying he's fine, understands etc, but he actually doesn't fully understand.
Now he's had CSMHS they said he has learning difficulties which will explain the behaviour snd understanding etc..

So just wanted to know if school will actually support him now as before they refused to actually take on board difficulties he has.

As stated previously, it is unlikely to make a difference to the support offered in school as SEN support is needs led, not diagnosis based. Independent schools are often not supportive of SEN, and where they are they often charge extra. If you think DS needs an EHCP you can apply for an EHCNA yourself.
