Hi everyone

I’ll try to make this quick DC is now 18 months and my gut feeling is becoming increasingly stronger with a feeling that their maybe an issue. I’m up against the normal responses from family & friends when I raise concerns such as “their to young” “all children are different” “ I know this child and she’s completely different” “ you’re worrying to much”

( a side note I’m well in contact with health visitors and referrals are starting to be made)

So I wanted to know at what age did you notice there maybe something going on with your child that has led to a diagnosis? Or did you have a worry but now your DC is older there are no problems ?

Just for further information DC has no words, lots of noises but not babbling more like shouting and odd sounds, 50/50 on responding to name depends how distracted they are, unable to understand tasks or things like ‘shoes’ doesn’t point or pull us over to things ( no communication in that sense) obsessed with anything that spins, no movement to music, 50/50 with other children not fully interactive wouldn’t hold hands or anything like that but might follow other children around or laugh at them, no mimicking such as isn’t copying anything they see at home.

On the other hand DC will hold great eye contact when their on someone’s lap and being sung to, such a loving child, will hand toys over which they wish to play with, and picks up certain things quickly such as high 5 and doing cheers with cups.

Really interested to hear others experiences or some reassurance maybe !

Thanks everyone x

My youngest has ADHD and I noticed early on that she was extremely hard work. I just thought she was a bit of a baddie though.

My friend's son...he has ASD and I noticed with him at about 18 months. She didn't notice anything...it was her first child and she'd not been around many kids.

He never brought me things...my own would bring me toys and items whilst they were in the sitting room and show me them or hand me them.

He also used to do an odd flicking movement with his fingers near his eyes. And stare into the distance. He did like being bounced on a knee though.

Now he's 11 and off to mainstream high school. He has mates and talks as well as any kid his age.

If you're worried get an appointment. It's hard I know.
