School now backing us up on behaviour we are seeing at home. Just starting off trying to get some support

DD is 6. Off and on over the years we have questioned whether she may have some additional needs. She struggles to emotionally regulate, relationships with her peers can be strained, she is over physical with her family and peers, she never sits still and struggles to focus and more lately she has been having immense anger outbursts of pure rage. We have spoken to the school in the past and they have said they didn't think there was anything to worry about.

Well, now they do and the letter detailing her behaviour in school was quite a shock to see it all written down.

We have been advised to try and get an appointment with a consultant paediatrician. Any advice for parents just starting out on this path?

Can the school not refer ?
I mean, I know systems sometimes vary even in different parts of any one of the home countries, let alone the UK or rest of the world (don't know where you are) but in my authority, the school would refer. It is much better than a GP ding so as obviously they will know the child FAR better than a GP would.

If not, then I guess you call the GP

The school advised to go to GP to get a referral for a consultant paediatrician.

I am guessing the waiting lists are huge. Ideally we would want some more insight before she goes back to school, so I am guessing we may have to go private. I have no idea how to do that. Do I just Google?

If you can afford to go private then you should do it in my opinion- the year or two waiting is horrendous! Where are you based? I am sure there will be recommendations on here for people or Google will provide some.

With some belt tightening, private is an option, but private what? I have looked for local paediatricians, they seem to mainly focus on allergies and respiratory stuff, not the more behavioral end of things.

Are there any other forums people would recommend?

It sounds like possible ADHD to me. My 6 year old son has recently been diagnosed. Where do you live? I live in London and could give you some suggestions. PM me if you want.

If I was going to make an uneducated guess I would say something like ADHD with some sensory issues thrown in. I will PM you
