Querying ADD?

Hi, hoping someone can recommend a book with strategies for working with ADD. My year 8 son has always been 'spirited', struggling with attention, concentration, impulsivity and anger. He's ok academically but constantly getting into trouble at school for stupid things. School/home punishments make absolutely no difference to his behaviour. I'm wondering if there's a mild element of ADD and wanted to see if any ADD strategies would help him. School aren't really interested, I suspect because he copes academically and isn't disruptive enough to cause major problems. Any suggestions gratefully received! Thanks.

Not aware of any books but would it be possible to go for a diagnosis, it might help manage the symptoms.

Routine tends to be good for kids with adhd. Using ‘now and next techniques’, planning out days ahead. I think it helps them to do a lot of the thinking in advance so they are less overwhelmed on the day.

Positive reinforcement strategies for behaviour. Punishments don’t tend to work with adhd kids, so don’t bother.

Positive modelling of behaviours.

The explosive child is a great book about managing kids like this where conventional discipline doesn’t seem to stick.
