Adhd and private education

Has anyone had experience of child with ADHD in state and private education? I’m wondering if the benefits of smaller class sizes in a private school will outweigh the potential pressure of being amongst more driven peers .

I just saw this.

My son has ADHD and is at private. I think on balance the smaller class sizes and greater level of attention does outweigh the higher level of academic pressure, which he does not respond well to.

But we'll see, we may end up re-assessing over time.

He hates school, but the things he hates (having to comply with rules, having to do academic work) would be the same anywhere, and the things he likes (outdoor time, small classes, some specialist art facilities) wouldn't be available in a comprehensive in our area.

If you can find the right school then going private can help. My DS has ADHD and goes to an all boys school where they are very supportive and tolerant of his hyperactivity. He is only 7 but at this age it seems like they are willing to make multiple accommodations to help him do well. The EP we consulted had only good things to say about the school's handling of ADHD/Dyslexia boys.
A friend's DD is a similar age and is being assessed for autism and ADHD. She is in a state school but apparently her school has been lovely as well.
I don't know if it's helpful at all, but there are good and bad schools in every sector and it's just about finding the school with the right attitude and funding to help your child.

Can a private school refuse admission for a child with ADHD? I am confident that my little boy could pass the 7+ but he is a real handful at school at the moment - requiring one to one TA support. He is undergoing assessment for likely ADHD. An EHCP is being submitted. I can see the many benefits of an independent school for him but would they accept him? Also concerned it could be a complete disaster and he could be excluded!
