Autism has been mentioned...be kind

So DD 6 has always been contrary and since starting school has struggled to keep up. We have given her lots of support (ourselves and private tutor and therapy). Initial views were it could be nothing as she's very young for her year and we should wait and see see. Her school is very small and supportive.

For the first time autism has been mentioned by her tutor. I have had a suspicion for a while but she's had a good year and her school had originally discounted it.

We will try and get her assessed and move forward, but if I am honest I just feel really sad for her and pretty dismal about her future. She is quite hard work to parent and I guessed I had always hoped this would change over time, but I now see so many things she will never do and a hard life ahead of her.

Please don't be sad. There is a lot of misunderstanding around autism and if she is autistic, then having the understanding of autism and best practice support strategies will give you even more ways to know how to to support her.
