Learning to read without phonics

Would people find it helpful to have an online offering that teaches dyslexic children aged between 6 and 8 (or those at risk of dyslexia) to read at the required level for their age in around 6 months-1 year?

I am a primary school teacher who believes that this can be done using a system without phonics and am thinking of creating one.

I would!! My son is 8 and does not read yet

Yes! Too late for my DD but it was at that age that I felt she got left in limbo as it was assumed all the children could read unless they were diagnosed (and she wasn’t at that point). I tried the easy Read programme which helped (as did all manner of practice) but it still uses a type of phonics whereas DD generally learnt by sight.

What system would you use?

How are you thinking of doing this @Hummingbird28?

Hi @Orchidflower, @nursejekyllnursejekyll , @BreakfastClub80*,*@Sammie24

My plan is to use the Ladybird Peter and Jane books which are excellent for sight reading but I am waiting for permission from Ladybird to do this. Also, in order for the children to gain full comprehension, I aim to draw on the techniques used by both Ron Davis in his book, "The Gift of Dyslexia" and Olive Hickmott in her books, "Bridges to Success" and "The Elephants in the Classroom". I intend to launch a pilot scheme to try this out in the next few weeks- there will be no charge for this. If anyone is interested, please do contact me directly.
